"When
I was a teenager I remember my brother and I would
put on Maynard Ferguson records and mimic the instruments
in the band. It was a pretty funny sight, we had many
solos down note for note, basically we were doing
Jerry Lewis shtick, but not to be funny (although
believe me, we were!), just to enjoy the music. I
even remember being in a car with a friend later,
and one song from Maynard came on the radio, so I
started mimicking it while sitting in the car (by
habit I guess), I just didn't realize that we were
in a traffic jam and suddenly I looked around and
realized that everybody was looking at me laughing
so hard".
"Never did I imagine that I would meet him, let
alone know him as a person. Maynard is just what you
see, a nice guy who just wants to enjoy life and thinks
music is all about having fun. He loves every guy
who has gone through his band and tries to showcase
their talents as much as possible while they are in
the band. Maynard first hired me when I was a teacher
at The Berklee College of Music. He was doing a festival
without his regular band and needed a pianist. Ever
since then Maynard has been a positive influence on
my life. After touring with "The Boss" for
2 years, Maynard asked his record label to let him
try his hand at producing. The result of Maynard's
efforts was a recording contract for Both Tom Garling
and myself . It was a high point in my life."
